A golfer uses a putter with the RipIt Monsters Ink grip.
Golf doesn’t have to be boring, even when you’re covering your travel basics. RIPIT Grips

There is nothing quite like playing golf in paradise, but the journey and experience often come with some challenges. As I was marveling at the views from the Dye Fore courses during my recent trip to Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic, I was quietly annoyed that my poor reception was keeping me from being able to share my delight (and subtle boasting) with my Instagram followers in the moment.

Fortunately, I had my one of my all-time favorite golf gear gadgets, the Solis portable WiFi hotspot, in my golf bag, so I was able to fire that up and boost my signal for when it was time to kick back at Chilango Taqueria for a post-round mezcalita. Still, I wondered if there’s a better solution for bringing WiFi with me, and it turns out that Solis already has the answer.

Solis 5G Mobile WiFi Hotspot

The Solis 5G personal hotspot
Golf, exploring, lounging poolside—there are plenty of reasons to own a personal hotspot. Solis

It might be time to host a retirement ceremony for my old WiFi hotspot now that Solis has changed the game once more with the 5G Mobile WiFi Hotspot. While I’d have loved to head out to another Caribbean course to test this one, it arrived in time for Florida’s storm season, and my old house loses power and WiFi the moment a light breeze picks up. I figured there’s no better way to test a new hotspot than when Mother Nature does her thing.

With a new digital interface, activating and using the hotspot is easier than ever. In moments of desperation, using the app to operate the previous version could be complicated if my phone was getting no reception. However, the 5G model is as simple as turn on and connect to the best available signal—that is, once you’ve registered and subscribed to the best data plan for your needs.

That, of course, is the million-dollar question: how much do you need? And the answer relies on how much you plan to use it. The so-called digital nomads will likely want the biggest and best plan for setting up shop in those beautiful locations where there’s no connectivity so they can post the obligatory “my office for today” photos. But the occasional traveling golfer and anyone who wants a Plan B device for power outages will enjoy a basic plan. No matter the scenario, this 5G hotspot is bound to become every traveler’s new best friend.

Blue Tees Golf Player Pack

The Blue Tees Golf Player Pack
This might be the best and easiest way to help a beginner power up. Blue Tees Golf

Now, let’s talk about a gift that will make your favorite golfer smile from ear to ear—especially on the links. Blue Tees Golf has quickly become one of the most buzzworthy names in accessories, because the gear is just sublime. And there’s no better way to stock up on this equipment than by picking up the Player Pack, which boats two of the brand’s best items at a big-time discount with two additional items providing even more convenience.

The Series 3 laser max rangefinder alone is an item that will help a basic golfer get a better feel for the game, and the Player speaker is ideal for providing a soundtrack and keeping your iPhone charged. Joining them in this pack are the MagHub, which keeps the other two items attached and organized in your bag and cart, and also a multitool that includes a divot repair, ball marker, groove cleaner, club tee, and bottle opener.

Sure, the giftee might be thrilled, but the gifter should be pleased, too, because this limited edition offering also comes with a nice discount.

Monoprice Power Bank

The Monoprice Power Bank 44369.
Travelers should never leave home without a high-quality portable battery. Monoprice

Aside from connectivity, battery life should be your biggest concern. Especially if you’re carrying an iPhone, Airpods, a watch, and the rest of the gadgets I’m about to list below. Let’s start with the basics, though, and choose a portable battery charger that packs enough punch to handle your most important digital accessories.

Monoprice offers a trio of power banks that can handle everything from one phone to your whole kit. The simple choice for the minimalist traveler is the Monoprice Power Bank 44369, which has a capacity of 10,000mAh or, for those of us who don’t speak tech, enough for two or three full phone charges. This is especially great for couples because it has a dual port for charging poolside or at the beach. The 44370 model can handle as many as three devices, or 4-6 phone charges, and the 44371 is the big dog of the bunch, allowing 4-6 rapid charges for five devices.

Shot Scope X5 GPS Golf Watch

The Shot Scope X5 GPS Golf Watch in black.
It’s like having the world’s smartest caddy on your wrist. Shot Scope

Three things made my game significantly better this year: my Takomo 101 irons, a borderline miraculous visit to The Kingdom at Reynolds Lake Oconee, and the Shot Scope X5 GPS Golf Watch. I was always skeptical of the need to know the distance to the pin from every spot on the course, but that’s obviously dumb. When you hit the ball as many bad places as I do, you most certainly need to know the crucial numbers for getting back on the right path.

Not only does the X5 act as a personal digital caddy in that capacity, but it also makes finding and adding courses a breeze. And that’s just one of the many exceptional touches this watch offers, as it also comes with 16 club tags for performance tracking, keeps track of your real time scoring, and counts your steps from the car to the clubhouse and beyond.

RipIt Monsters Ink Putter Grip

The RipIt Monsters Ink putting grip.
It’s time to make your clubs stand out from the rest. RIPIT Grips

Want to make new friends on the golf course? Add RipIt Grips to your clubs, sit back, and wait for the comments to pour in. At every course I have played since having my clubs re-gripped with the Marilyn, Uncle Sam, Geo, and other various designs, other golfers, cart attendants, and even the pros and instructors have asked me about them. In a sport that has long lacked personality and character, people love seeing this kind of creativity in and around our golf bags.

Now, RipIt has rolled out its first putter grip, and the design is an indicator of the Australian brand’s plans for the future. The Monsters Ink concept is a collaboration with Aussie artist Happy Decay, who has already worked with companies like Nike, Prada, and Porsche, among others, and it is just the beginning of exciting partnership with emerging artists. Judging by how quickly golfers jumped on this one, that means great things for upcoming swing grips featuring the works of Evan Weselmann, Nori Okawa, and Renato Flores.

Lucyd Lite 2.0 Sunglasses

Lucyd Lite 2.0 Sunglasses
With a variety of styles, every type of traveler is covered. Lucyd

Whether traveling for work or a family vacation, I love golfing alone. Getting out on a course at the crack of dawn and knowing there’s not a soul in front of me does wonders for keeping the golf demons in my head from ruining 18 holes. It also allows me to listen to my favorite playlists, which I usually do with one of my portable speakers. However, when I am traveling as light as possible, and with my favorite caddy already on my wrist, I recently discovered a new way to save bag space, keep the sun out of my eyes, bring my music along, and look great while doing it all: the Lucyd Lite 2.0 Sunglasses.

The first time I tried a pair of Bluetooth shades, I thought they were clunky and aggravating, but I should have known that time would cure all ills. Lucyd’s new offering is a slimmer, lighter style that looks good for any occasion, so you can wear them even in those moments when you don’t need a soundtrack. Aside from golf, these sunglasses are also great for exploring, sightseeing, or simply relaxing on an empty beach.

Tifosi Swank XL Sunglasses

Tifosi Swank XL Sunglasses
Sometimes a simple style is the best. Don’t overthink it. Tifosi

What are the most important aspects we look for in a pair of golf sunglasses? Durability, for starters—especially when you’re playing a course in the Caribbean and Mexico, where ocean breezes hit you with a salty mist that can wreak havoc on lenses. If you need one pair to go from the course to the resort and beyond, style matters just as much. And if you’re worried about possibly losing them or leaving them in the cart by accident, price is also near the top of your list.

Enter: Tifosi Swank XL. While I love having a pair of floating sunglasses that I can use on land or water, a lighter frame has one serious drawback: it slips right off my face when I’m sweating heavily. This is a huge problem on my home courses in Florida as well as my Caribbean favorites like Old Quarry Curacao and Royal Turks and Caicos, so the Swank XL is a terrific solution. The hydrophilic rubber frame actually increases its grip when it gets wet, so sweat, rain, and ocean water are no concern. And at just $25, it’s a hell of a bargain on a classic look with cool color variety.

Tomo Golf Bravo Shoes

Tomo Golf Bravo Shoes in gray.
Versatility, comfort, and style collide in one fantastic pair of shoes. Tomo Golf

Have you ever had a Cinderella moment with a new pair of shoes? You’re not sure they’re the right style or fit just by looking at them, but you give it a shot anyway and it ends up being the best pair of shoes you’ve ever worn? That’s basically what happened when I recently tried on my first pair of Tomo Golf’s Bravo shoes, because this is a stylish and insanely comfortable concept that will undoubtedly only keep getting better.

For starters, the simple, fun style allows for the Bravo to be worn anywhere, which is clutch for anyone who needs to keep the backpack light (the shoe weighs just a tick under 11 oz.). But what I love most about this new essential is the extra cushion in the heel, as it saves my sensitive heels from scraping against the back of the shoe (the sacrifices I make to keep wearing no-see socks) and just flat-out feels fantastic. That goes a long way when your travels take you an even longer way.

Even the infamous Bear Trap is no match for the Takomo 101 Irons. Islands

Of all the made-up holidays we celebrate because we simply love celebrating anything, National Golf Month might be the one that is the most unnecessary. For most golfers, no matter how good or bad we are, rain or shine or mind-blowingly hot, we never stop thinking about this sport that is both wonderful and mean, so I’ll just borrow a cliché and state the obvious: every month is National Golf Month.

Still, it’s a holiday and you and the golfer in your life deserve to be pampered. If anything, a nice gift will hopefully add a little positivity to your mojo or add a little swagger to your profile. From the irons to the shoes, here’s the gear I’m absolutely loving right now.

Takomo 101 Irons

One of my favorite things about my Takomo 101 Irons—aside from the affordability and fact that they might have been crafted by wizards—is watching this company take off and become one of the hottest new names in the game. Some of the sport’s most popular influencers are now riding the Takomo wave, and it’s simply thrilling to see more and more people learn firsthand what I’ve been screaming for at least a year: these irons are absolutely phenomenal.

First and foremost, they are extremely forgiving and swing like a breeze. Switching from a “major” brand to Takomo made me wonder if I was making a mistake, but the experts behind this concept had people like me in mind, as the 101s were designed for casual and beginner golfers who don’t have time to practice daily. Even my much better friends—and two instructors—confessed how much they love swinging my irons and the Takomo Skyforger wedges as well.

Equally important, though, is that the traveling golfer should love them because the price is low enough that lost or damaged luggage won’t feel like a stock market crash. Not that you want to lose your sticks, obviously, but less money spent means more for a high-quality travel case (like Samsonite’s hard case that says, “I’m all business, even in paradise”) or this next accessory…

Stewart Golf VERTX Remote Trolley

A golfer with the Stewart Golf VERTX Remote Trolley.
It lacks the wisdom of a human caddie, but it’ll still save your back. Stewart Golf

As the temperature (hopefully) declines, golfers who love to play for the fitness value will prefer to walk more and leave the carts at the clubhouse. Obviously, that either means lugging a heavy bag around for 18 holes or choosing the right trolley, and UK-based Stewart Golf has made it clear that the VERTX Remote is the only trolley for the job.

What makes this one so special? Its coolest capability basically allows it to do the caddy things the tech accessories can’t do for you: bring you your clubs. Golfers will love using the Active Terrain Control feature to summon their trolleys from up to 100 yards away. That’s especially great for those moments when you know darn well you’re holding the wrong club and don’t want the people behind you shaking their fists in rage.

Instead, they’ll be staring in awe.

ORCA Golf Customized Bag

A golf bag from Orca Golf.
A customizable bag is the pinnacle of creativity and style on the course. Orca Golf

Hey, if you’re getting new irons and a fancy remote trolley to carry them, you might as well have the hottest personalized bag in the game. And forget a cart bag with your name stitched on the side, because the intricate process used by this creative team will leave no doubt in any golfer’s mind that this is not their bag when they mistake their own for all the other similar brand names at the clubhouse.

Instead, ORCA allows you to choose the bag model and then upload whatever logos, artwork, and colors you prefer, so if you want to be the only dude on the course with a “Macho Man” Randy Savage bag, go right ahead and do it. (Except please don’t because that’s my idea.)

Carl’s Place Mevo+ TeeParty Golf Simulator Package

The Mevo+ TeeParty Golf Simulator Package from Carl's Place
Simulators offer an opportunity for golfers of all experiences to learn in a casual environment. Carl’s Place

You know that old joke about how you’ll know if a person is a vegan (“they’ll tell you!”)? Well, that’s how I feel about golfers who have simulators set up in their homes. Except I love hearing all about them, and I love it even more when I’m invited to play them, because they’re just so much fun (and I don’t have to worry about being on a packed Florida course, somehow with a 5-some playing into us while we wait for the twosome in front of us to six-putt /endrant). Choosing one is, of course, the hardest part, but fortunately Carl’s Place makes it too dang easy.

Obviously, space plays an important part in the selection process, so the new Mevo+ TeeParty Golf Simulator Package offers golfers multiple sizes of the C-Series DIY Golf Enclosure Kit (which includes the premium impact screen) so they can plan and play accordingly. Also included are the FlightScope Mevo+ 2023 Edition launch monitor, BenQ LU710 Golf Simulator Projector, and the 5’x8′ Country Club Elite Golf Mat. And while the serious golfers will love the analysis and tracking features of the Creative Golf 3D Software for Mevo+, young players will get the golf itch by playing a variety of fun games that will provide indoor entertainment and instructional insight.

The only thing missing is the swagger, and that comes with the simulator apparel from Carl’s Place, because why not increase the comfort while dominating virtual courses?

True Linkswear FS-Slide

The True FS-Slides
A golfer’s feet will love these slides for almost any occasion. True Linkswear

Of all the news I heard at this year’s PGA Show, one of the most exciting revelations came from the team at True Linskwear, the geniuses behind my favorite footwear for on and off the course. When I first learned about this brand, it was because people were raving about the All Day Knit 2—arguably the best shoe in travel and golf. This simple, stylish concept has been ideal for anyone who packs light and needs an “all of the above” shoe, as I wear mine on the plane, at the resort, and on the course.

So, how does that get any better? With the introduction of the True All Day Knit 3, which offers better heel padding for those of us who wear no-see socks and have sensitive heels. But before I could even celebrate this new shoe, the team behind it all let me on a big secret: resort wear is coming. And now it’s here, starting with the “Golf and Leisure Club” drop.

I wanted to just highlight everything, but your attention spans won’t allow that. So, I’ve chosen my absolute favorite for, again, travel and golf: the True FS-Slide, an extremely comfortable sandal option for those moments when you don’t need full coverage. From the resort pool to the 19th hole, give your feet a break with exceptional style. (And this slide pairs oh so nicely with the All Day Vacay Button Up, too.)

Blue Tees Player+ GPS Speaker

The Player+ GPS speaker from Blue Tees Golf
This GPS speaker does a little bit of everything. Blue Tees Golf

Bluetooth GPS speakers are all the rage right now and having tried several I’ll admit they’ve helped. But then I caught wind of the buzz building around Blue Tees Golf’s tech-sessories—especially the 3 Max rangefinder, which has earned rave reviews—and early tests of the Player+ GPS Speaker are coming back unanimously positive.

What sets this model apart from other speakers, including those from the biggest name brands, is the touch screen display that shares the hole, its specs, and the golfer’s distance all of which are helpful for those of us who typically just look at the pin, shrug, pull an iron out, and hope for the best. Basically, we are golfing at a time when there are more aids than ever, and companies like Blue Tees are not only helping us shlubs play so much better, but we get to listen to our best playlists while we do it.

Solis 5G Personal Hotspot

The Solis 5G personal hotspot
Golf, exploring, lounging poolside—there are plenty of reasons to own a personal hotspot. Solis

The Solis Lite Hotspot has long been a constant accessory in my carryon gear (and hurricane preparedness kit), and the first time that I realized just how important it is was when I was on Hole 4 at Quivira Los Cabos and I couldn’t get a signal on my phone to save my life. That’s bad news not only for whichever GPS device I’m using, but also for keeping my playlists bumping. But golf aside, having a portable hotspot will just make any getaway easier and safer.

Now, Solis has stepped it up with the 5G personal hotspot, so you can connect to the strongest available signal and enjoy faster speeds. Plus, the rugged design means it basically belongs in every adventurer’s backpack, because you simply need to listen Enya when looking at the most beautiful waterfalls in the world (or Kenny Loggins when you’re playing closest to the pin with the strangers you’ve been paired with at Teeth of the Dog).

Rheos Stono Sunglasses

The Rheos Stono unisex sunglasses
The Stonos is the olive shade. Rheos

For my hottest golf apparel take, I’ll confess that traditional golf sunglasses are a little fugly for my taste. The sleek style and narrow lenses remind me of professional cyclists and 1990s professional wrestlers, and I’m sure they offer certain advantages for the more intense players who can measure their own distances using the sun and shadows. But for us casual golfers, it’s all about finding the right look with a style that isn’t clunky or annoying.

When I first added the Rheos Lanier sunglasses to my bag for water adventures, I was thrilled by the extremely lightweight over the fact that they’re built to float so I won’t lose them in the ocean. Then it occurred to me that this might be the ideal style for a golf course in the Caribbean heat as well, and by the fifth hole at the Ocean Club in the Bahamas I realized I was correct. And while the Lanier is still in my travel rotation, I like the new Rheos Stono style even more, as the color choices make it phenomenal for those one-backpack, one-item-for-any-occasion quick getaways.

Linksoul Low Tide Short

The Linksoul Low Tide Short
The Low Tide style is a traveler’s Swiss Army short. Linksoul

Are you really a golfer if you don’t have a drawer filled with Linksoul shorts? That’s a trick question, because you don’t need to play to enjoy the immense comfort provided by this California company’s gear. Like the True shoes (of which there has been a Linksoul collab that we’d love to see again), the Low Tide Shorts should be the preferred choice for minimalist travelers who want something that works for a variety of occasions.

With versatile colors, these shorts can go to the gym, beach, pool, trails, driving range, and probably even the airplane, so long as it’s not on the return trip following those activities.

Birdie & Ace Racerback Polos

Birdie & Ace Racerback Polos and V-Top shirts
Fun, stylish performance gear that’s great for tennis or golf. Birdie & Ace

Hot on the heels of the buzzworthy “skort” from this creative newer company comes the Racerback Polo, which is made with the same soft and durable performance material. Available in a variety of colors and patterns, the Racerback (and similar, equally fun V-Top) are ideal choices for women who not only play both golf and tennis—at home or on vacation—but also want to include a sense of style that has been lacking from golf apparel for a long time.

RIPIT Grips

A set of Ripit Grips featuring various colors of the Geo styles on irons.
These grips don’t just look fun—they feel great, too. RIPIT Grips

Circling back to my Takomo irons, the only thing that other golfers and my instructors find more interesting than the clubs are the RIPIT Grips. In fact, when I was recently playing Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic and I asked my caddie, Guillermo, for my 4-iron, he laughed with delight when he saw the peach-colored “Marilyn” grip. It instantly became a topic of discussion for the next two holes, and everyone in my foursome took turns examining my clubs.

Now, the Marilyn might be a little risqué for some golfers, but RIPIT Grips offers a variety of fun, creative styles, from the simple Geo and Suiggle patterns to the goofier Daily Diet and Bloody Ripper. Grab one of each and your clubs will instantly become the talk of the course. Unless, of course, your pal Boner puts his cart in the lake again.

Struggling to pick the perfect beach for your next vacation? What you need is a little extra help to find the right spot for you. That’s the purpose of The Perfect Beach Finder, a new trip planning tool from BeachBound Vacations, an online travel agency that specializes in beach getaways.

The Perfect Beach Finder has four separate elements that enable users to browse vacations using a map, a trip bargain calendar, a quiz that yields tailored answers, or a list of vacations organized by users’ home airports. One year after its debut, BeachBound is still improving its features to best serve beachgoers and sun worshippers looking for a stress-free getaway.

“We believe this innovative addition to BeachBound Vacations will take us even further into the space and help deliver unique and trusted recommendations to help travelers plan their best beach vacation,” said Michael Lowery, Head of Global Consumer Business, BeachBound Vacations.

Here’s how it works. Guests start by answering questions to help determine the right resort for size, food options, cultural experiences, entertainment and more. For those who want to keep all options on the floor., there’s a “browse all beaches” tool. A calendar function helps find vacancies and price ranges. An interactive map lets travelers focus on particular areas of the globe.

“Based on our experience, we know that sometimes all people need is a vacation and what makes that vacation perfect is different for everyone,” said Dana Studebaker, Vice President of Marketing, Consumer Brands at BeachBound Vacations. “We think the Perfect Beach Finder helps families, friends, couples and more, easily pinpoint the best resort and destination for them without being overwhelmed by too many choices.”

A trio of Revolve Golf Bags.
A great golf bag goes a long way—like all around the world. Revolve

Playing golf on vacation can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, when you visit the Dominican Republic to play Teeth of the Dog or Mexico to take on El Camaleon or Quivira Los Cabos, you can take a million photos to share on Instagram and make all your golf buddies back home insanely jealous. On the other hand, you have to pack a lot of extra gear and, unless you’re fine spending a few hundred dollars on rental clubs, you also have to pack your sticks and lug them around, too.

It can all be a bit much sometimes.

Fortunately, there’s so much gear out there now that is designed to make the experience more convenient without taking affecting your skills and reliance on certain tools and gadgets. And best of all, when you bring only the gear that you need most, that means unpacking is easier as well. Here’s the gear that I recently brought with me to PGA National and Ocean Club in the Bahamas and why I think every traveling golfer should want to bring it on their next trips, too.

Revolve Golf Bag

I recently purchased another brand’s cart bag because I loved the design and look, but after two rounds with it, I was furious because it never stood up on its own and constantly fell over. Guess who isn’t a fan of that? My hotel room’s neighbors. I was back to square one with a need for a durable, convenient bag that not only does the job of carrying my clubs and accessories, but also travels well and looks good, because style always plays a big role.

The solution to all my problems came with the Revolve Golf Bag. Lightweight and boasting enough pocket space to carry my balls, gloves, towels, and more, this is already as fine as any carry bag can get, but the two detachable wheels and retractable handle are downright brilliant additions. It is an exceptional choice for when you’re staying at a resort that doesn’t have a golf course and therefore can’t or won’t hold your clubs, because you can move across the property with ease, as opposed to having to stop to adjust a clunky cart bag and maneuver through families who insist on walking 10-wide.

And normally I don’t care much about people checking out my gear on the course, but every attendant who helped me or simply saw my bag at PGA National stopped to ask me about it, because I could tell they appreciated the convenient design more than anyone. Although I had to teach them how to take the wheels off to properly strap it onto the cart, because that caused a little confusion each morning of my stay. But that learning curve aside, this bag will travel the world with me, because it is simply my favorite.

Takomo 101 Irons

A Takomo 101 iron displayed next to a tee sign at the Ocean Club Golf Course in the Bahamas.
An affordable club will make golfers feel better about bringing them on trips—but these are great irons, too. Islands

The sleek, simple design of my Takomo 101 Irons also always has other golfers asking me about my gear, because people see them and think that I’ve spent big bucks on improving my game. Not quite, friends. Yes, I love these clubs because they swing like the breeze, and I have never hit irons better in my years of trying to play golf than I have with my Takomos. But I love them most of all because of how affordable they are.

That’s why they were created in the first place: to give golfers a budget-friendly alternative to the sets that cost four digits. Affordability also goes a long way in the travel realm, because prior to owning this set, I was terrified by the idea of bringing my clubs anywhere they could be lost. Poor baggage handling, careless resort attendants, or just some sticky-fingered golfer who decided he liked my clubs—these are the fears I previously lived with. At least with my Takomo irons, I know they can be replaced if the worst happens, even if I’d still mope for weeks.

Bearbottom Tech Polo

A man wearing a Bearbottom Tech Polo
Versatility in apparel is any traveler’s best friend. Bearbottom Clothing

One of my greatest goals in testing and learning about new travel gear has been finding the perfect polo for a little bit of everything. I’ve worn some good options, but none has made me as comfortable and carefree as the Bearbottom Tech Polo, which comes to us from the same company that makes my new favorite dry bag.

To a lot of people, a polo is just another shirt, but when you’re on vacation and trying to keep your luggage light, it can be your best friend. As simple as the style gets, this one comes in three basic colors that all wear well enough for everything from the airplane to the resort’s fine-dining option. But the aspect that matters most is comfort and this is a polo that feels as good on the golf course as it does on the sunset catamaran cruise. Pack two of these in your backpack and don’t bother with another shirt for your weekend escape.

Shot Scope X5

The Shot Scope X5 GPS Golf Watch in black.
It’s like having the world’s smartest caddy on your wrist. Shot Scope

Don’t tell my Apple Watch this, but this is the reason I rarely wear it anymore. For the simplest needs, the Shot Scope X5 is an ideal timepiece with a clear, accurate display with five interchangeable digital faces for your everyday preferences. But on the course, this thing is a pint-sized, lightweight caddy that will do wonders for your club selection and accuracy.

Before owning the Shot Scope X5 golf GPS watch, I never paid much attention to yardage. I’ve always been the kind of golfer who just guesses and hopes for the best, which is obviously a really careless approach to trying to shave strokes off the scorecard. Having the depth of insight that this watch and app boast has been incredibly helpful on my last several rounds, and it builds even more confidence when you know help is just a button tap away.

Tomo Bravo Shoes

A pair of Tomo Bravo golf shoes in grey
Multiple pairs of shoes can be tough to pack, so find a pair that does it all. Tomo

Just like a good polo, I’m always looking for a pair of comfortable shoes that can be worn anywhere on my trips. The best version of this that I have found to this point is the Tomo Bravo, a shoe with so many design perks that it’s hard to decide what I love the most. Obviously, the pillow insoles are a dream to walk on, especially when your vacation involves guided tours and exploration, or when the course is cart path only after a little rain.

Honestly, I’m just in love with the simple style of these shoes. The two basic colors—Frost Grey and Ink Black—go with almost any outfit, so after a morning on the course they’re still fine for walking around downtown Willemstad for shopping and admiring the street art, and they go great with a pair of jeans or travel pants for a dinner on the restaurant’s patio overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

Osmo Active Hydration

An assortment of Osmo Hydration packets
Staying hydrated is crucial for golfers playing multiple rounds. Osmo

Little resort perks like reusable water bottles go a long way with me, mainly because it makes a perfect “free” souvenir, but also because the hot Caribbean sun will keep a golfer thirsty all day long. Being dehydrated is the last thing anyone wants on vacation, but when you’re planning to play one to five rounds of during your trip, you need to be sure that you’re taking care of numero uno.

When you can’t travel with big jugs of sports drink, individual powder packets are the best alternative, and Osmo’s Power Fuel has a permanent spot in my golf bag. Not only are the packets convenient space savers, but the flavors blow away the regular brand’s blue and red. Blueberry pomegranate is my personal favorite, but blackberry is terrific as well, and orange and lemon-lime are also great for traditionalists.

A Breeo X Series 24 smokeless fire pit being used to cook multiple steaks and other food items.
Even if you’re short on space, you’ll be shocked at how much food you can cook. Breeo

With every release of a new version of fire pit, Breeo makes me wonder, “What could possibly be next?” After all, there are only so many ways you can redesign a cylinder that holds very hot materials, so beyond a sear plate, detachable grilling Outpost, and retractable handles, I am fascinated to know where else this company could possibly take the outdoors cooking experience.

Well, it didn’t shock me when Breeo announced a new line of outdoor furniture, because it’s a logical next step. Perhaps my favorite addition is the X Series Kid’s Chair, which is a fantastic choice for the little s’mores lovers and aspiring grillmasters. But to kick off this griller’s gear guide, I’m sticking with the pit that does the most.

Breeo X Series 30

The Big Boy of the Breeo family, the X Series 30 is ideal for people who believe the back yard is the only place to properly entertain guests. But as Derek Wolf (aka @overthefirecooking) has proven, this fire pit makes magic when it comes to the grilling experience—I mean, just look at what he does with a tomahawk. All it takes is the Outpost attachment, your food of choice, and a little creativity to make a meal that friends and family won’t soon forget.

Add a few Breeo X Series chairs—a stylish twist on the classic Adirondack—and maybe a couple for the kids, as well as the X Series Table, and now every meal can be prepared and enjoyed outdoors. Although, we might need Breeo to create a powerful portable fan for those hotter days.

PK Grills PK360 Grill and Smoker

An open PK Grills PK360 grill and smoker being used to cook multiple steaks, fish, and peppers.
The PK360 will make outdoor cooking a fun adventure for grillmasters of any level. PK Grills

For as long as I’ve been using a grill, adding the PK Grills PK360 Grill and Smoker to my routine made me feel like a beginner all over again, and that is a great thing. For starters, being able to grill and smoke in the same device not only broadens your options, but it also saves a lot of space—especially because this is already a smaller grill than most of the “big boys” out there.

But for a family cookout, it’s an absolute blessing, because the cooking space and spacious, UFO-like shelves won’t leave the grillmaster feeling cluttered. Even better, because the cook chamber is constructed entirely from aluminum, the PK360 disperses the heat more evenly, which allows for cooking multiple types of food at one time. And, be it by design or just luck, I have not cooked one bad meal on this thing yet, which makes it a confidence booster, too.

BioLite FirePit+ Cooking Kit

Campers gathered around the BioLite FirePit+ in the woods.
This sure isn’t your grandfather’s fire pit. BioLite

Heading out on that amazing annual camping trip? This is the portable cooking option you’ll want for any style of adventure, from a solo excursion to a family retreat, because it is as simple as folding the legs and packing it into the handy travel bag. The BioLite FirePit+ is already one of my favorite products I’ve ever tested, because it is a compact contraption with smart connectivity that allows users to control the longevity of the flame, so you never have to worry about the fire burning too long or getting out of hand.

The FirePit Cooking Kit, however, is all that and then some. In addition to the cooking grate, this package includes a grill lid with adjustable air vents, a griddle for those early morning pancakes or delicious veggies, and the prep and grill toolkit, which includes a spatula, tongs, and knife. And if that’s not enough, BioLite also just introduced the EcoZoom Versa wood and charcoal rocket stove, which adds a single burner option to your campground kitchen so you can make the squad even more treats.

Herd and Grace Aussie Feast

The Aussie Feast Starter Box from Herd and Grace.
Say, “G’day” to this exceptional value. Herd and Grace

When it comes to trying new cuts, I’ve always been very scared about cooking wagyu. There’s no room for error when it comes to expensive steaks, but the confidence instilled in me by my aforementioned cooking devices made me finally take the plunge, and the results blew me away. Since my local options are always a little “meh” at best, I rolled the dice on the sterling reputation of Herd and Grace, which delivers 5-star Australian steaks in exceptional curated boxes.

The first cut that I grilled—we’ll call this a practice run—was the Pure Black Barley-Fed Angus Beef Asada Sirloin Flap Meat, which my wife said was the best steak I’ve ever grilled. (Both inspiring and mildly offensive now that I think about it.) That success gave me the courage to finally give cooking wagyu a shot, and so I made a pair of the Robbin Island Full Blood Wagyu MB9+ Ribeyes, and my 7-year old son, who always complains about how long it takes to chew steak, ate an entire 10 oz. ribeye faster than anything I’ve ever seen. “You should make more steaks like that,” he mumbled between bites.

And I will. Next on my list is the Herd and Grace Aussie Feast Starter Box, which is currently 50 percent off and includes a beautiful tomahawk, the asada sirloin flap, a Wanderer Free Range Barley Beef MB4+ Porterhouse, and Full Blood Wagyu Premium Ground Beef. This package will undoubtedly be my gateway to one of the bigger curated boxes, too. Especially the magnificent BBQ Box.

NoBull Veggie Burgers

A hamburger made with NoBull’s Sundried Tomato patty.
Feel free to tell guests it’s your own recipe. They won’t know. NoBull Burgers

When my vegetarian brother-in-law and his family recently moved back, I knew my traditional grilling routine was about to become a little more complicated. It’s great, though, to learn about different styles and preferences, and it is equally beneficial to have a reason to bust out my portable Nomadiq Portable Propane Gas Grill, which doesn’t have an extensive history of meat mess like my other cooking platforms. And best of all, as I have learned from many of the resort chefs I’ve met on my travels, there is some truly amazing vegetarian cuisine to enjoy.

But let’s start on the grill with the timeless delight of hamburgers, or veggieburgers in this case. Specifically, NoBull Burgers’ incredibly creative patties that come in five flavors: The Original, Madras Curry, Spicy Italian, Savory Mushroom, and Sundried Tomato. Normally, my stomach demands all things spicy, but Savory Mushroom sounded downright fantastic, so on the grill it went.

And this was one of those moments that proves you can still experience core memories at any age, because I was blown away by how delicious this patty is. I feared I’d have to smother it with hot sauce or maybe sneak a little bacon on it, but no way. This burger is downright phenomenal, and I’m thrilled to try the Madras Curry next.

Before the Butcher Uncut Plant-Based Ground Chorizo

A corn and rice dish featuring Before the Butcher’s Uncut plant-based chorizo.
This is a remarkable substitution for the real thing. Before the Butcher

One of my guiltiest pleasures is mixing ground chorizo in everything, so keeping a pack in the freezer is mandatory in my home. Of course, that’s not exactly the healthiest diet routine, so feeling the positive vibes from my burger test run, I figured we could see if plant-based chorizo can hang with the real thing and at least take some guilt out of my omelets.

Before the Butcher’s Uncut plant-based ground chorizo is downright wizardry. It doesn’t necessarily replace the real stuff, but it’s so delicious and possesses a mild kick that it has instantly found its own place in my freezer and on my plate. And with breakfast and taco options, I’ve hardly scratched the surface with what I can accomplish with this delightful brand’s offerings.

Bushwick Kitchen Weak Knees Sriracha Hot Sauce Gift Set

The Weak Knees Sriracha Hot Sauce Gift Set from Bushwick Kitchen.
Better have a napkin handy for when the sweating starts. Bushwick Kitchen

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there’s a sriracha shortage. As someone who needs hot sauce for every meal, this is a terrible development, but fortunately there are geniuses out there making great things happen. For example, Bushwick Kitchen has its own trio of rockin’ sauces, and there’s enough for everyone to sweat at every meal. Sure, you can pick one of their excellent flavors, but let’s be bold—grab a box with all three.

The Weak Knees Sriracha Hot Sauce Gift Set is certainly a fine choice for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or just about any occasion (use promo codes 4mom23 and 4dad23 for 20 percent off when ordering through the Bushwick Kitchen website), but when my box arrived I was practically running like The Flash to make a basket of wings.

Oh, and as for those Weak Knees, amateur hot saucers should start simple as opposed to pouring it on. My pro tip is to believe the bottle when it says, “Super Spicy.” That kick is legit.

Grill Kilt

A man wearing the GrillKilt apron while grilling.
Style and grilling collide with this essential accessory. Grillkilt

Utensils are always important, but you probably already have a set that includes tongs that you’ll just randomly click for no reason. What you need is the proper attire, in this case an article of clothing that also acts as a holster for your most important utensils. I speak of the Grill Kilt, my friends, and it is the most glorious apron I have ever owned.

In all seriousness, the design of the Grill Kilt is phenomenal. There’s a pocket for everything, up to and including a cold canned beverage, so you will never find yourself fumbling to grab the right fork or spatula in those crucial moments when wings or a ribeye needs to be flipped or placed on the plate. And while it’s not the most important aspect, the look alone is guaranteed to make everyone ask you about it.

That’s when you tell them the most important thing: “A grillmaster never shares his secrets.”

The Revv1 Ride1Up Electric Bike in an oceanside setting.
When it’s time to explore, make sure you have all the accessories that will help deliver the best of your destination. Revv1

It’s crazy to think about how many advances have been made in camping gear. Now more than ever, outdoor enthusiasts can basically bring their favorite comforts of home with them to the Great Outdoors while barely filling a trunk. Glamping is obviously the extreme end of the spectrum, but even if we just want to spend a day or two in a national park or camping by the beach, it doesn’t have to be so rough and tumble, no matter how much that attitude irks the more grizzled among us.

If you want your campground to be as luxurious as possible without going full glamp, or you want to get the most of your adventures without packing the kitchen sink, here are some of the latest products and gadgets that will help take your experiences to another level.

Revv1 Ride1Up Electric Bike

If you can’t tell, I’m riding high on the electric bike wave, and everyone needs to hop on board. For starters, the practicality is amazing for people with short daily commutes, and there’s nothing better than being able to skip traffic. But they’re also just plain fun, especially the newest addition to my concrete armada: the Revv1 Ride1Up Electric Bike.

Whereas I’ve grown accustomed to riding in beach cruiser style, the Ride1Up seems to take its name from the fact that it’s a next-level concept that rides far more like a moped than a bike. In fact, when I was done assembling it, my neighbor remarked that it reminded him of the classic café racer style, and that’s one of the reasons that I love it. This thing just looks sharp, and it didn’t take long to get it out of the box and into riding shape so I could spend a few minutes marveling at its sophisticated style.

But the ride is always the most important aspect, and this thing cruises like it’s sailing on the land. It’s as quiet as it is convenient, and I have no doubt that the Ride1Up will serve me well when it’s time to hit the trails, because there’s a subtle rugged element that just screams, “Let’s get dirty… but not too dirty.” After all, we don’t want to make our camp messy. We do want to explore, however, and with the durable frame, powerful motor, and battery that can last as many as 60 miles, this is the ride of choice.

Bote LONO Aero Inflatable Kayak

A woman paddling a Bote inflatable LONO Aero kayak on a river.
Solo adventures shouldn’t be limited by heavy gear that is difficult to transport. Bote

The team at Bote has made incredible strides in making it easier than ever to bring stand-up paddleboards and kayaks on road trips, and that’s great because who doesn’t want to spend time exploring lakes and rivers in exciting new locations? The Bote LONO Aero Inflatable Kayak comes in multiple styles that all make spending hours on the water fun and convenient.

Wake up before the rest of your fellow campers and remove the folded kayak from its travel bag, and with only a few minutes needed for preparation, you’ll be out there with a fishing pole in hand and not a worry in the world. And that counts for spilling your drink, too, because the helpful Magnepod base will keep your Bote drinkware (and Bluetooth speaker) nice and safe while you embark on a fantastic adventure.

BioLite FirePit+

Campers gathered around the BioLite FirePit+ in the woods.
This sure isn’t your grandfather’s fire pit. BioLite

Between the time I’ve spent trying to master my other fire pits and how often I’ve watched Cooking with Fire Instagram videos while dreaming of being that talented, I feel like nothing should surprise me with these premium camping accessories. And then the BioLite FirePit+ came into my life and made me wish it wasn’t already summertime in Florida, because I want to fire this bad boy up every minute I’m awake.

I’ll admit I was a little skeptical of the “smart” concept with a concept as seemingly simple as a fire pit, but this is so creative that I should have never doubted BioLite. The FirePit+ has a sleek rectangular design with a mesh body, so it’s already exceptional at keeping the smoke low and embers out of your face. But the removable powerpack is the hero of the day, as it not only runs the fan that can be controlled from your smartphone (with an app), working with the 51 airjets to maintain consistent temperatures long into the night, but it also allows everyone to charge their phones and tablets.

My favorite aspect is the adjustable fuel rack, as it can support wood or charcoal, and with a simple adjustment and the installation of the grill grate, it’s kebab, burger, and hot dog time for everyone. Combined with its light weight and the carry bag, this is basically a portable outdoor cooking adventure.

Bearbottom Rapids Backpack 30L

A man wearing the Bearbottom Rapids Dry Backpack 30L.
A dry bag is crucial for anyone who spends a lot of time on the water. Bearbottom Clothing

Different adventures call for different backpacks, but if you’re going to be outdoors and by the water, you will definitely want a dry bag for anything you want to protect from the elements. The Bearbottom Rapids Dry Bag 30L isn’t like our fancier backpacks that have soft, lined laptop compartments and hidden pockets for cash, cards, and valuables, but this style is just as important because of its simple purpose: keep your dry gear completely dry.

But let’s not pretend that it can’t also serve as an ideal bag for a day trip spent exploring a St. Kitts jungle trail or shopping in Curaçao’s colorful capital city, Willemstad. Its durable design and stylish appeal make it a great choice for any times of excursions, so long as you know how to be a little creative with your packing.

MoonShade XL

Van campers sitting beneath the MoonShade XL portable awning.
Have it made in the shade with an awning that takes mere minutes to set up. Moon Fabrications

The MoonShade has been a part of my tailgate routine for several years, as it easily attaches to my four-door Jeep Wrangler for wherever and whenever it’s time for an outdoor party. The addition of the MoonWall made it an even more exceptional accessory for those of us living in sunnier states. Now, though, Moon Fabrications is going big with the MoonShade XL, which will be especially beneficial to those wanderers living the van life.

Offering approximately 100-sq. ft. of shade, this lightweight, versatile awning takes less than five minutes to set up (if you can convince Jeff to put down the fishing pole and help) and even better, it takes just as little time to pack up for when it’s sadly time to head home. This version is currently available for order on Kickstarter, so get in line now.

Helinox Royal Box

The Helinox Royal Box shade tent set up on a beach.
Easy does it with this simple yet wonderful tent. Helinox

For mornings and afternoons spent by the lake or on the beach, you’ll also need shade to protect everyone from sun exposure. Convenience is still the key to having a great time, because no one wants to waste a precious moment fumbling to set up a day tent. That’s why Helinox’s Royal Box is such a great choice, because it takes practically no time at all to set and forget while everyone does cannonballs off the deck or belly flops against the waves.

Of course, you’ll also need a pair of the Chair Zero L, an equally convenient style that weighs less than two pounds but offers a shocking level of comfort not found in similar seats. Then, break out the Table One L so you have a place for plates as the burgers and dogs are finished on the fire pit.

The Gladly Family Adventure Bundle

The Gladly Family Adventure Bundle wagon.
Children will feel like royalty riding in this spectacular wagon. Gladly Family

Like fire pits, the wagon is an accessory that feels like it has already been perfected, only to completely surprise me. When taking younger children on outdoor adventures, we need to make sure they’re protected from the elements better than anyone else, and The Adventure Bundle from Gladly Family will do that better than just about anything. Seriously, this is like a rolling tent and it’s amazing.

For starters, the setup on this wagon, right out of the box, is a snap, so parents can waste no time preparing it for the road trip. And while you might worry about size and storage for such a complex ride, this thing folds down so well and slides right into its own travel bag that it’s basically another piece of luggage. (The convenient breakdown is also fantastic for storing at home where space is limited.)

But what matters most is performance, and the Adventure Bundle is basically the Cadillac of wagons. Inside, two seats allow for spacious, comfortable travel as parents pull a child or two along the trail or down to the lake, and for longer journeys, the removable snack tray means kids can have lunch while adults do all the work. For sunnier or rainy locations, the large canopies fold up and down with ease, and a mosquito net can also be installed to keep the bugs away from sandwiches, fruit, and spilled GoGo Squeeze pouches. Parents will especially enjoy multiple storage options for accessories and other treats, and the cup holder and storage container on the pull bar are the cherries on top.

Ostrich 3N1 Backpack Beach Chair

A man carrying the Ostrich 3N1 Backpack Beach Chair on a beach.
Save your arms the trouble and give your legs a break. Ostrich

Before I started focusing on my organizational skills as an outdoorsman and traveler, I was a lot like those overdramatic actors in infomercials clumsily dropping all my gear and then tripping over it. All that was missing was a sad trombone. Now, though, clever designs are everywhere and it’s nearly impossible to be a clutz when it’s easier than ever to carry a lot of gear at once. That’s especially the case for a big, comfy beach chair that comes with backpack straps.

The Ostrich 3N1 Backpack Beach Chair is a lightweight, portable seat that has several bells and whistles that will delight anyone who just wants to spend some time by the water. For starters, the backpack straps make it easy to transport from the car to the sand, and it’s not bulky or heavy so bad backs and shoulders will be fine. A storage bag on the back can be used to protect your valuables or keep a few extra water bottles out of the sun, and my favorite aspect is the hole that allows you to lay face down and still keep sipping and reading in ultimate comfort.

Pure Outdoor Portable Refrigerator

The Pure Outdoor Portable Refrigerator holding various drinks.
Who needs to lug around big bags of ice anyway? Pure Outdoor

Coolers are great for camping trips or simply spending the day at the beach, but they can be a pain to load and lug around. And as important as ice is for keeping our drinks and snacks cold, it takes up a lot of space and melts, which means your cold time is limited, especially in older styles. The Pure Outdoor Portable Refrigerator is the perfect solution for all of this, and it’s not nearly as bulky and inconvenient as it sounds.

Built like a large cooler, this fridge concept allows you to keep everything cold while also storing more in the 25L compartment since you don’t need ice anymore. At only 24 pounds when empty, it’s not difficult to lug around when your buddy Jeff won’t offer to help. Best of all, it cools quickly so you won’t be waiting around long for the White Claws to be chilled to perfection.

BlendJet 2

A variety of Blendjet2 portable blenders in different colors.
Stylish and compact, this is a health nut’s best accessory. Blendjet

More storage space means more snack options, too, so bring fresh fruit and a Blendjet 2 to make delicious smoothies and/or festive margaritas. This portable blender is a godsend for travelers with health and wellness in mind because it’s lightweight and easy to pack, but it also has an exceptional battery life, so you don’t have to worry about it dying while you’re trying to make another round for the squad.

Some blenders are surprisingly difficult to clean, so a small size also pays off big time here, because this is the easiest cleaning process I’ve ever dealt with. A dozen smoothies in the books for me and no sign of fruit residue in hard-to-reach spots.

LAKA Cooler

A LAKA Cooler being carried on the beach.
When it’s picnic time, there’s no need to overdo it. LAKA

For those times when space is limited or you just don’t have a lot of gear to haul, the LAKA Cooler can get the job done and do it all in style. Available in 20-, 30-, and 45-quart sizes, this accessory is ideal for a couple’s getaway to the beach or a family picnic just about anywhere. Making it especially convenient are the various easy-to-carry handles, but I’m an especially big fan of the roller bag style of the LAKA 30. You just cannot discount the convenience of being able to stack things and roll wherever you need to be.

Jason Hanson’s Tactical Survival Gear

Former CIA agent Jason Hanson’s tactical pen.
This pen is certainly mightier and more convenient than a sword. My Tactical Pen

We don’t talk about tactical gear a lot, because it’s not really at the top of the list or even on the list at all when it comes to packing for big, beautiful resorts. But peace of mind is always an important concept for regular travelers, so it’s helpful to have something in your backpack that could be used in a pinch, when the unthinkable occurs. And I always carry a pen with me for when it’s time to fill out those pesky entry forms, but now it’s the Tactical Pen from former CIA agent Jason Hanson and Train Like a Spy.

I know, it sounds intense for a trip that’s all about R and R, and I was also skeptical that a pen could really do anything for me in a nightmare scenario. But all it takes is handling the pen one time to realize what it can do, with its sharp to the touch pointed end that will definitely make someone think twice if struck by it.

For camping excursions, Hanson also offers the ultralight tactical tomahawk, which weighs just 17 ounces so it’s a great fit for the backpack when you’re out exploring. In the simplest settings, it can make chopping up firewood a breeze, but if the worst happens it’ll be a crucial tool for helping people out of a pinch.

Kōkua Sun Care

A bottle of Kōkua Sun Care Hawaiian Natural Zinc Sunscreen on the beach.
Keep your skin and the reefs safe. Kōkua Sun Care

All this gear every month and it’s like I’ve forgotten about sunscreen, arguably the most important accessory for any vacation. Kōkua Sun Care has found a permanent spot in my backpack because, first and foremost, the Kōkua Sun Care Hawaiian Natural Zinc Sunscreen SPF 50 is perfect for my son and I, as we both burn easily and need as much protection as we can get.

But the two most important words in sunscreen are “reef safe,” and this brand knows it. No toxic chemicals means our eyes won’t burn once we start sweating a lot, and the coconut vanilla scent is always a pleasant treat.

Fin-Nor Spring Tide

A pair of Fin-Nor Spring Tide sunglasses.
Hit the beach in style and don’t worry about grabbing a different pair for anything else. Fin-Nor

Let’s not forget a great pair of shades. I’m already so head over heels for my Fin-Nor Tilloo sunglasses—that are as great a style for fishing as they are lounging by the pool—so I had zero hesitation grabbing another pair from the five new styles that were just released: Dropfly, Cleat, Sportfisher, Tillies Bank, and Spring Tide.

The last one especially caught my eye (not literally, that would hurt) because I am always looking for accessories that benefit the minimalist traveler, items that work on the sand or in the resort’s best restaurant. The Fin-Nor Spring Tide is an aviator style with fashion-forward arms that have terrific tropical vibes.

Monster Power Grid

The Monster Power Grid in a car.
There’s no such thing as too much power when camping. Monster

Portable chargers are one of the most essential accessories for any travelers, but adventurers typically need a little more depending on the volume of gear. For those of us who travel with smart phones, tablets, laptops, headphones, a Nintendo Switch, and portable blenders, the Monster Power Grid is a generator on the go, offering two AC outlets, three USB-A ports, a 60-watt USB-C port, a Qi charging pad, a 12-volt car port, and 12V DC output port. That’s a lot of juice, friends.

But the last thing we want is to be stuck somewhere in the Great Outdoors with no battery left in our phones, not only because we need to reach people in emergencies, but also because that righteous 80s music playlist needs to keep going until the sun comes down.

A pair of INNO F-1 Golf Cars on display at the 2023 PGA Show in Orlando.
Sometimes you just want to hit the course on your own. Innodesign

Of all the coolest gear I saw and tried at the 2023 PGA Show in Orlando, I probably spent the most time browsing the new golf carts. I’m hardly in the market for one of my own but seeing the evolution of these seemingly simple vehicles and how companies keep making them better and smarter is nothing short of impressive. And all the while I’m seeing more and more families zipping around the neighborhood in their custom carts, so we have to admit this is far more than a one-trick pony.

But the model that stole my heart is the INNO F-1 Golf Car, a solo-player’s dream ride conceived by Innodesign Inc. in California. Sleek and stylish, looking like something Kevin Flynn would drive if Tron’s MCP had a golf course. There’s just something cool about the idea of waking up early and quietly driving out to the first tee in bright red electric cart.

Hopefully, it will still have enough room for all the new gear golfers will be rocking this spring, including my top picks.

SoundExtreme by Ecoxgear

The SoundExtreme SEB26 Wireless Electric Soundbar installed on a boat.
For boating, golfing, or simply lounging by the pool, a great, versatile soundbar goes a long way. Ecoxgear

No golf cart is complete without a proper sound system because music always makes a round better—when enjoyed at a considerate volume. From the moment I set up my SoundExtreme-SEB26 Wireless Electric Soundbar, I was blown away, not only by the clarity and crispness of the sound and volume, but by the design, durability, and especially the ease of assembly. Obviously, I don’t have the cart yet, but there’s also incredible versatility in this device despite its size.

For the sake of testing the sound quality and capabilities, I have used it in my garage space for yard projects, connected it via Bluetooth to my poolside TV to considerably enhance the sound on weekend PGA tournaments, and even provided a soundtrack for the neighborhood kids as they played in the street.

But this is still primarily a golf cart boombox, so naturally I had to test the installation process on a friend’s cart. It’ll take a few minutes, but setup is as easy as it gets, thanks to a quick and concise cable connection and mounting design. From there, golfers will never have to worry about anything but choosing the right playlist, because this bad boy was built to withstand it all—rain, wind, sand, and probably even your friend’s errant approach shot that rattles around your cart like a pinball machine.

Carl’s Place Train and Entertain Home Golf Package

The Train and Entertain Home Golf Package from Carl’s Place.
Is it a golf simulator or a home movie theater? It’s both. Carl’s Place

Many golfers have probably dreamed of setting up their own home simulator so they can tee off on Pebble Beach anytime they like, but there’s always that one nagging problem: space. As in, where the heck are we going to put this thing? Carl’s Place is already well-known for developing premium home simulators, but now the Train and Entertain Home Golf Package helps solve the space issue by turning it into something the whole family can enjoy, even if you’re the only one who cares about golf.

Carl’s Place turned to expert YouTuber DJ (@GolfRnD) to create this concept that is equal parts simulator and movie theater. So, when you’re not hitting off the divot strip and living out your wildest golf dreams, the entire squad can make plenty of popcorn and gather to watch Tin Cup and Happy Gilmore. Or, you know, movies that don’t involve golf if that’s what they’re into.

Safeplay Golf Monster Mat

An up-close look at the Monster Mat golf practice aid.
Thicker and more realistic than other practice mats, the Monster Mat is a very helpful tool. Safeplay Golf

For those of us who simply don’t have the space for a simulator or prefer to work on our swings outdoors, the Monster Mat from Safeplay Golf is simply as good as it gets. I have purchased plenty of hitting turf pads in the past, and not one of them can hold a candle to this 5’ x 5’ turf platform. Forget the thin pieces of foam covered with fake grass and miss me with the plastic carpet that comes with most affordable chipping practice sets.

My biggest problem with the thinner, cheap mats has always been the pain and discomfort that comes with hitting a bad shot, and I’ve injured my wrist several times because of this. The Monster Mat will make an inexperienced golfer feel like there’s no bad shot, as it doesn’t punish you for chunking the iron. In fact, it has helped me build shot confidence so well that I want to bring it to the driving range, which isn’t that difficult, so long as the attendant is cool with it.

Shot Scope X5 GPS Golf Watch

The Shot Scope X5 GPS Golf Watch in black.
It’s like having the world’s smartest caddy on your wrist. Shot Scope

One of the most convenient things about golf clothing and accessories is how so much of what we wear is being designed for everyday use. Shoes can be worn on or off the courses, while performance polos and shorts have become every minimalist traveler’s best friends. I’ve always felt the same way about my Apple Watch, too, but as I have incorporated more golf into my vacations, the need for a convenient GPS device has become a priority, and so the Shot Scope X5 GPS Golf Watch has entered the chat.

The sleek design is ideal for myriad situations, especially all things travel, but golfers will love having access to front, middle, and back distances for more than 36,000 courses around the world, as well as an AI performance tracker that provides 100 statistics. There’s also a step-counter for general fitness use, and the customizable faces and various colored straps make this a fantastic all-around fashion accessory.

TecTecTec Team8 Golf GPS Speaker

The TecTecTec Team8 Golf GPS Speaker in use on the Ocean Club Golf Course in the Bahamas.
Paradise always has a playlist, but it’s better when the speaker makes you better at golf. Islands

Another important accessory for a lot of us is a Bluetooth speaker for enjoying our favorite golf playlists (again, at a responsible volume), and for those times when we don’t have a massive boombox in our own golf carts, the TecTecTec Team8 Golf GPS Speaker is a remarkable alternative.

First and foremost, for a speaker that fits in the palm of your hand, the sound is exceptional. I assumed the role of DJ on a recent round at the Ocean Club Golf Course in the Bahamas, and the random golfers I was paired with were quite impressed by the clarity and volume. But what blew them away is the fact that this is also a convenient GPS device that can tell you all the distances of each hole you’re playing at the touch of a button. And, best of all, the magnetized bottom makes it simple to attach to the cart frame.

Con.Struct Green Collection

A man wearing a performance polo from the Con.struct Green Collection.
Every traveler should want versatile apparel that saves luggage space. Con.struct

Minimalist travelers yearn for gear that can go anywhere and clothing that can be worn in any scenario. Give us a polo that can go from golf to brunch to the boat, and that’s two less pieces of clothing to be packed. Make it with recycled materials and you’re really scratching all our itches, and that’s exactly why we’re head over heels for the Con.Struct Green Collection right now.

Produced with renewable solar energy and recycled polyester, the goal with this line is to reduce pollution without affecting comfort. All the while, the polos, short-sleeve button downs, windbreakers, vests, and performance shorts and pants maintain a traditional sense of versatile golf and travel fashion while adding some elements that are a little fun and quirky.

Waggle Pargarita Golf Polo

The brand new Pargarita performance polo from Waggle Golf.
The Pargarita is one of the newest styles from this eclectic brand. Waggle Golf

A fun game to play while watching any PGA tournament is “Spot the Waggle gear.” As this fun, creative brand rises in popularity, the colorful polos and hats are popping up all over the place and judging by the reaction to the 2023 Azalea Collection, it’s only a matter of time before Waggle Golf is one of the biggest names in the sport’s apparel business.

My personal favorite from this year’s new drop is the Pargarita golf polo because it’s just about the most tropical design imaginable. There are plenty of “fun” brands popping up in the golf space lately, but what sets Waggle apart is the quality of the on-course apparel. These shirts are as comfortable as they are clever, and they’re almost always the talk of the clubhouse.

Bearbottom Rapids Dry Bag 10L

A man carrying the Bearbottom Rapids Dry Bag 10L.
There’s no reason to get your most important accessories wet when on vacation. Bearbottom

Big adventures require bigger bags, but when we’re hitting the links in paradise, a smaller dry bag can be a very important accessory. We already love the Bearbottom Rapids 30L backpack, so it’s a no-brainer to add the Rapids Dry Bag 10L to the cart bag.

Small enough to not be a burden for keeping the travel load light, this 500D PVC pack can be sealed watertight so crucial accessories like a wallet and smartphone don’t get wet at the beach or when that random afternoon storm picks up.

Rip It Grips

A set of Ripit Grips featuring various colors of the Geo styles on irons.
These grips don’t just look fun—they feel great, too. RIPIT Grips

Of all the new gear I’ve tested and added to my bag in recent months, nothing has had other golfers talking like my new set of Rip It Grips for my irons. Sure, the creative designs of the Uncle Sam and Bloody Ripper are conversation starters, but it’s all about the feel. A lot of golfers aren’t keen to letting other people touch their clubs, but I’m here to spread the gospel and so I want people to know that these grips are as soft to the touch as any others.

Durability and performance always remain the biggest factors and so I was elated when I made it through my round at the Ocean Club, not only with no sign of wear on any of my new grips, but also no blisters on my hands. Those of us with delicate paws know how bad a round can go when the grips are ruthless on our skin, so I’ve never been happier to not have to immediately reach for the golf tape to make it through 18.

A Takomo 101 iron displayed next to a tee sign at the Ocean Club Golf Course in the Bahamas.
An affordable club will make golfers feel better about bringing them on trips—but these are great irons, too. Islands

Save the best for last. While my new golf friends all spent several holes getting used to the rentals at the Ocean Club, I couldn’t have been happier to have my Takomo 101 Irons for the first time in paradise. With each round, I just can’t imagine swinging another club because these are so clean and forgiving, and the design always makes other golfers ask about them as well. (Between these and the grips, I’m having a lot of golf conversations lately.)

Playing in the Bahamas was a great test for the Skyforger Wedges, too, because it was very windy the morning I played, and so I relied heavily on low runner shots, which can really screw with accuracy. I’ve never been great with wedges, but sometimes you just need a crash course and I’m already way more confident with them. Of course, we’ll circle back and see how I feel again after I play Teeth of the Dog next month.

These grips don’t just look fun—they feel great, too. RIPIT Grips

Roughly 60 balls into my twice-weekly bucket of twice as many, a fellow golfer spotted my frustration and agony from the other side of the driving range. He made his way over to me and confidently declared, “You have a blister,” as I considered my best Captain Obvious comeback. “Let me see your club,” he continued, taking the club from my hand before I could even tell him he was right. “These grips are terrible,” he concluded after a very brief examination.

“Here, try my club.” His pitching wedge had a jumbo grip on it, which felt bizarre after years of using standard grips, but sure enough, blister be damned, the swing was fine, the ball went straight, and my hand felt mostly pain-free. “A lot of golfers don’t realize how important grips are,” he said as we exchanged clubs again. “Get yourself the right set of grips on those clubs, and you’ll be much happier on the course.”

As soon as I was back at my computer, the quest for the right grips began, but I wasn’t just looking for the right feel. I always need the right look, too. My polos are fun, my bag is fun, and my club covers are fun. There’s no such thing in my game as matching, and I don’t give a hoot if my gear clashes a little. My golf icon is more Al Czervik than Arnold Palmer, so everything in my game needs color, character, and a touch of craziness with all the bells and whistles.

At face value, that certainly describes Ripit Grips. This Australian company has created a variety of grips that are fun, quirky, and even a little bit lewd, but these designs were developed to help golfers display their personalities through their clubs, which you don’t see much in the old school name brands. The Judge Smails crowd might not like these, but the weekend warriors who just want to crush it, Bryson style, are going to love this look.

But fun only gets you so far down the fairway. Performance plays the biggest role, and even though getting your clubs regripped isn’t that expensive, it’s still a huge decision. It’s like getting a tattoo—these things aren’t permanent, but they’re a B-word to remove. Fortunately, mine aren’t going anywhere.

My new range friend offered his advice right before I acquired a new set of clubs, so I first stopped by the local sporting goods store, purchased a few jumbo grips and the do-it-yourself kit, and then returned home to perform some experiments in my garage. I popped the jumbos on my old Nike irons, waited until they were set, and returned to the range. Yes, they were a little more comfortable, but they weren’t right.

Fast forward two months and my Ripit Grips were installed on my new Takomo Golf irons, and they instantly passed the personality test when the guy at the pro shop raved about the cool designs. The first thing I loved about ordering the iron set from Ripit was that you can mix and match, so all eight clubs can be the same or different, which is great if Mary Jane isn’t your bag, or if you want to go heavy on Uncle Sam or Bloody Ripper.

The Daily Diet style of Ripit Grips.
Fun styles like Daily Diet will surely have your fellow golfers jealous. Ripit Grips

Finally, it was time to find out if the performance matches the personality. As always, I am not a golf expert, so I base my conclusions on simple factors. In this case, I made a list of questions to answer once I hit 10 balls with each club that was rocking a new style:

Do they feel better than the old grips? Substantially. I don’t know if the specific patterns are conducive to a smoother experience or if it’s just that the combination of natural and synthetic rubbers are simply that much better than the standard alternatives. Either way, they feel smoother and that inspires more confidence in my swing.

Did they upset that one spot on my right hand that always blisters? Not yet. Fingers crossed that it remains this way. Nothing worse than having to mummy wrap with golf tape before each round.

Do they feel durable? This was probably my biggest concern, because sometimes gimmick brands lean more toward novelties, which means the fun only lasts so long. But after several rounds, my confidence growing with each swing, I’m immensely impressed with how clean and consistent the grips feel. There’s no wear, scuffing, or loss of color after several months of regular use, but I still have the Florida summer ahead. Things could change, but I really doubt it.

How do they handle the elements? That’ll be tested more in the months ahead, but they’ve already been exposed to a few rainy rounds, and all is well. If anything, the combo of new clubs and grips has made me more inspired to properly clean and maintain them between rounds.

What do I love the most? Feeling like I’ve created my own clubs. They’re fun, the Ripit Grips create a conversation, and most importantly they feel great. As an average golfer, I can’t ask for anything more than that. Unless, of course, there’s a magical grip out there that would do the golf equivalent of the movie Like Mike.

Until then, these will do just fine.

When capturing the perfect memories, the last thing you want to worry about is losing important accessories. Nomatic

It’s funny how the concept of Spring Break evolves as we age. When we’re young, it’s the ultimate way to go out and blow off some steam. When we’re a little older, it’s still a fantastic way to let loose and escape everyday stress, but we approach it with a little more maturity. And eventually most of us reach a point where we sprain a muscle or joint just thinking about partying, and instead all we want is something a little more secluded and fulfilling.

One thing never changes, though: we always need new gear. If it’s a road trip to Ft. Lauderdale Beach, we’re going to need to do a little shopping. If it’s a family getaway to the Bahamas, it’s time to make a checklist. And even if it’s a couple’s retreat to that special little villa you’ve always had an eye on, you’re still going to need some extra items to enhance the experience.

Not sure where to start? We have your back.

Bearbottom Rapids Dry Backpack 30L

A man wearing the Bearbottom Rapids Dry Backpack 30L.
A dry bag is crucial for anyone who spends a lot of time on the water. Bearbottom Clothing

Take it from a dad who loves to overpack a child’s favorite pool and beach toys: a big dry bag should always be in the luggage rotation. From the moment you unpack the Bearbottom Rapids Dry Backpack 30L, you’ll know that not only will all your gear be safe from the elements, but you can also bring the kitchen sink and remain confident that everything you need is two snaps away.

One important thing to know about this style of backpack is that it’s not just about the adventure. This larger style from Bearbottom excels at adding comfort through a shoulder strap design that you’d expect to find on a fancier leather weekender. So, while it will be carrying snorkeling gear and GoPro accessories one week, it can later serve as your perfect gym bag or a coach’s carryall for Little League and youth flag football. Heck, keep it clean between trips and it can even be your daily work backpack. That’s the beauty of a very intelligent design.

Nomatic McKinnon Camera Pack 35L

For the influencer crowd, every week can be Spring Break, which means the goal of buying a new backpack should be to find an ideal blend of style, comfort, and utilitarian value. If photography is a big part of your vacation, then take a page from icon Peter McKinnon and grab a backpack that not only covers your basics, but also takes great care of your valuable accessories.

The professional photographer teamed with Nomatic to design and create the Nomatic McKinnon Camera Pack 35L (top), which beautifully blends style and durability for a concept that says, “Watch out—serious artist coming through.” Even if we secretly know that you’re just getting started with the hobby.

Nomatic Navigator Travel Backpack 32L

Travelers who loathe checking bags will love the expanding capabilities of this backpack. Nomatic

“But I’m not an aspiring photographer,” you might whisper while kicking at the dirt. If Nomatic does anything well, it is promoting variety and versatility in carryon luggage. For general travel needs, the Nomatic Navigator Travel Backpack 32L is a big, beautiful choice that allows solo travelers to spend weeks away from home, parents to pack a little bit of everything for keeping kids entertained and engaged, and couples to save space and money by just bringing the weekend essentials.

This is one big backpack, though, so if the load is lighter for a quick trip, the Navigator Lite Pack 15L is an equally great option. Or, pro tip: get one of each and leave the regular luggage at home…

FlyWithWine Piccolo 5-Bottle Carryon

The interior of a FlyWithWine Piccolo 5-Bottle Carryon rolling suitcase.
When space is at a premium, choose the luggage that creatively makes the most of it. FlyWithWine

That is, unless you need the regular luggage to bring back some special souvenirs. Although, the Piccolo 5-Bottle Carryon from FlyWithWine should hardly be considered “regular.” When I first read about this type of luggage, I expected it to be a gimmick that is fine for bringing some bottles home safely, but at the expense of the rest of your gear. Boy, was I wrong.

Let’s start by removing the foam inserts from this hard-case roller bag—it is a strong, durable, and stylish piece of luggage that is ideal for any short getaway. The interior design makes packing a breeze (with or without packing cubes) and the TSA-friendly lock inspires confidence in everything arriving safely when all the families on your return flight take up the overhead space with their excessive shopping hauls and you’re forced to check your bag at the gate.

(Sorry for venting.)

Now, with the foam inserts, this is undoubtedly the best way to bring home a few bottles of beloved wine and spirits, and a wise packer won’t even notice the difference in space.

Bote Zeppelin Aero Kayak

Three people paddling the Bote Zeppelin Aero Kayaks on a river.
For solo adventures or a couple’s escape, a kayak will provide plenty of fun. Bote

Always wanted to bring a kayak on your road trip but realized it’s pretty difficult when you don’t have a rooftop rack for your car or a kayak? The heroes at Bote have rectified both problems with one very affordable and convenient solution: The Zeppelin Aero Kayak.

With two models to choose from, it’s really all about what a traveler needs for the adventure. The Zeppelin Aero 12’6” is the OG version that got a style upgrade that now delivers tandem seating, making it the ideal selection for couples and dynamic duos. However, the solo wanderer will prefer the Zeppelin Aero 10, which is a single seater that offers more speed and agility for when there are multiple areas to visit before a nice snack on the shore.

What really makes the Bote kayaks so remarkable, though, is how easily they break down and pack up. And yet, despite how they’re designed for convenience, these kayaks are still loaded with bells and whistles. They’re modern miracles for travelers who are all about ease.

Bote Hangout Suite

An aerial view of the Bote Hangout Suite in blue water.
For when you’re miles from a resort but want to feel like you’re at one. Bote

For those travelers who wish to be on the water but not put forth any physical exertion, Bote also has a modern miracle for you. The new Hangout Suite was developed to revolutionize the “float category” that hasn’t offered many surprises over the years. Sure, there are some giant inflatable bouncers and maybe some crazy water toys, but for those moments when everyone wants to catch some rays and talk about life, very little will best what I am dubbing the Voltron of water-based recreation.

The Hangout Suite is comprised of the Hangout 240, Hangout Couch, and Hangout Lounge, but the ultimate perk is the ability to mix and match with various pieces. For example, the inflatable Hangout Bar Classic will be a must-have for responsibly enjoying fresh cocktails, and it also makes for the perfect spot to leave the Magneboom Swell Waterproof Speaker. Or, you can just go big and choose the Mega Floatilla.

Maybe you don’t want to spend all the time in the water, though. That’s fine, Bote has already thought of you, too. The Inflatable AeroRondak Chairs will provide the best seats in the house for anyone who just wants to dip their toes while staying closest to the dry snacks.

Treblab HD Force

A pair of Treblab HD Force Bluetooth portable speakers.
A pair of speakers will always get the pool party splashing. Treblab

For home or away, there are few accessories we love more than Treblab’s Bluetooth speakers and headphone. They’re always affordably priced while delivering the same quality as the bigger names, and if ever there is a perk for travelers to love, it is exceptional battery life. The latest offering from this reliable brand is the Treblab HD-Force waterproof portable speaker, which helps anyone launch a portable party while remaining conveniently helpful.

For starters, I just added a pair of these speakers to my backyard pool setup to see if they deliver the best summer sounds, and the pairing option is shockingly easy. A couple quick button pushes and these lightweight devices are going for hours, which is a nice upgrade from previous models that sometimes require multiple efforts to pair.

But the thing that spontaneous pool party hosts will love the most is the built-in power bank that lets guests charge their phones without detriment to the longevity of the playlist. Oh, and there’s a built-in mic in case you need to take that work call and pretend you’re definitely not on your lounger.

Sway Fire Flame Hydro Go

A Sway Fire Flame Hydro Go portable Bluetooth speaker.
Built-in LED lights add an extra element of fun. Sway Audio

As far as portability, we love a lightweight Bluetooth speaker that fits in a backpack, because you never know where and when it’ll be time to enjoy a soundtrack. With up to 15 hours of playtime between charges, the Sway Fire Flame Hydro Go IPX7 Waterproof Speaker will deliver plenty of fun on the journey, especially when the sun sets and the full motion LED lights kick in.

But the most important aspect of all is durability and this speaker was designed to handle the bumps that come with exploring. In fact, this speaker is likely going to be a favorite among younger travelers, between the colorful lights and the fact that they can’t get in trouble for dropping it by or in the pool.

Himiway Cruiser Electric Bike

A man sitting next to a Himiway Cruiser electric bicycle.
For fun or commute, an electric bike can do so much. Himiway

Still riding strong as my favorite product of the last year, I’m a sleeveless leather jacket away from starting my own e-bike gang. It’s hard not to feel such vibes while riding around on the Himiway Cruiser, because in addition to being a lot of fun and convenient, it is also a head turner.

With up to 60 miles of range, it remains an ideal choice for professionals with short commutes or simply riding to the store or gym. But for the space-saving crowd, the Himiway Escape Pro is also a great choice that doesn’t sacrifice style or fun while delivering reliability and safety.

BN3TH Bike Shorts

A pair of BN3TH’s Vacay Multi North Shore Chamois.
Comfort is king, on or off the bicycle. BN3TH

One thing I’ve learned as an e-bike aficionado is that the roads are a little bumpier than I anticipated, and that’s bad news for my old bones. Fortunately, my favorite athletic apparel brand from the PGA Show wasn’t content to just create an amazing pair of underwear. BN3TH’s Vacay Multi North Shore Chamois combines the same comfort I’m thoroughly enjoying from the Infinite Boxer Brief with the support needed to handle several hours of touring Caribbean cities on a stiff seat.

But what I really love about this spin on padded bike shorts is how versatile it is. I can go from the bike to a restaurant to the shops and back to the bike, all without walking around like Yosemite Sam after he hops off his horse. That’s a huge bonus for those of us who need to pack light.

Rheos Lanier Sunglasses

A woman wearing the Rheos Lanier unisex sunglasses.
A traveler’s best friend is a stylish pair of durable sunglasses that is good for any occasion. Rheos

A lot of factors play a role in developing an ideal pair of sunglasses for avid travelers, and one that I’ve focused on plenty over the last year is the “floater” style. After having lost a favorite pair of pricy shades to the beautiful waters off the coast of Cancun, it has been a top priority to make sure each new pair will never suffer that fate. But I also don’t want to sacrifice style and comfort because of my clumsiness. That’s why I was elated to get my hands on one of the latest styles from the Rheos Spring line.

The Rheos Lanier sunglasses boast a unisex style that works for a variety of travel-related occasions. A slightly modern twist on the Palmettos Aviator frame, the Lanier comes in two versatile tones—blue and olive—that not only complement water-based activities, but also wear well for everything from the airport transfer to a sunset dinner on the terrace.

More than anything, they are sublimely lightweight and easy on the nose without causing concern for sliding down and eventually settling on the ocean floor. Sorry, I’m still mourning.

Bearbottom Tech Polo

A man wearing a Bearbottom Clothing Tech Polo.
Versatility is the name of the game when it comes to picking a great performance polo. Bearbottom Clothing

Just like sunglasses, I’m also constantly on the prowl for performance polos that can thrive in any setting. If you think that sounds like an easy feat, you clearly never took the middle seat next to someone who apparently just finished playing a round of golf on a goat farm. The problem with performance wear is that it can trap odors, which is often a result of poor wash and care, but we also need to expect better of our shirts.

I play a lot of golf in hot places, and more often than not I am rushing from the course to dinner, which is why I constantly stress versatility in products. Bearbottom’s Tech Polo is a perfect example of a shirt that can do it all on vacation, as it comes in four basic colors and goes with almost anything. That means it can go from the airplane to the city shopping spree to the pickleball court and back to the resort restaurant.

Best of all, it cleans quickly for those moments when freshening up means splashing in the bathroom sink.

Duvin Design Co. Enjoy Your Stay Collection

The Ski Babes shirt from the new Duvin Design Co. “Enjoy Your Stay” collection.
The thing about Duvin apparel is that it will never be confused with another brand. Duvin Design Co.

One of the biggest themes I learned from both this year’s Surf Expo and PGA Show is that resort wear is having a moment, as the kids say. And who can blame anyone for wanting to be stylish yet casual at all times? It’s simply the best. One company that knows how to make this happen better than almost any other is Duvin Design Co., a Florida-based apparel company that excels at helping travelers wear their personalities on their sleeves.

The brand’s latest is the “Enjoy Your Stay” collection, for which there are 75 pieces that range from subtle and charming to unapologetically loud and vibrant, which will always be the preferred vibes of the Filthy Flamingo Surf Gang. Best of all, the vintage elements of the shirts and hats will mean they’ll have a place in your luggage for years to come.

Arcade A2 Carto Belt

A man wearing an Arcade A2 Carto Belt.
That’s the smile of a man who doesn’t have to remove his belt in the TSA line. Arcade

My love for Arcade’s performance belts is basically a public service announcement at this point. Look, when you travel a lot, you should constantly be evolving in terms of how you can be better prepared to make the transit aspect simpler and more convenient for everyone. That especially includes when you’re standing in those awful TSA lines, waiting to play the mental game show, “How Fast Can I Get My Stuff through the Scanner?!?!”

When you wear a belt like the Arcade A2 Carto, the brand’s latest durable style, that’s one less step you need to focus on when preparing. Made with Repreve, a post-consumer recycled yarn, the eco-friendly belts can stay on and go through the detector with you, which is a huge bonus when you don’t want to be the person whose shorts or pants get a little too saggy when the airport is at its busiest.

An aerial view of the floor at the 2023 PGA Show in Orlando, FL, where all of the biggest and newest names in golf gear displayed their products.
The biggest names in golf showed off the newest gear, but some of the smaller brands stole the spotlight. PGA Show

When you think about simple, minimalist travel, golf is probably the last thing that comes to mind. After all, if you’re playing one of the best Caribbean courses on your vacation, that means bringing extra shirts and shorts, shoes, accessories, and maybe even your clubs—my Takomo 101 Irons are new, permanent travel fixtures—which then require a special case. It’s an ordeal, to say the least.

It’s also always worth the effort. Coming off a year in which we enjoyed rounds at Quivira Los Cabos, Old Quarry in Curaçao, Royal Turks and Caicos, the Bay and Plantation Courses at Kapalua, and El Camaleón, golf is now, more than ever, part of our vacation itineraries, so we should expect to pack and carry more, right? Not quite.

While everyone was going wild over the new Callaway Paradym drivers, I scoured the 2023 PGA Show in Orlando for gear that might improve my game, while also making the travel process a little easier.

Alltimate Luggage 3-in-1 System

The hordes of aspiring pros and casual golfers (dressed as if they were about to tee off) crowded the makeshift driving ranges and lined up for miles to experience the latest in simulator technologies, but I was busy having a blast patrolling the new Product Zone and Inventors Spotlight. My favorite product from the travel realm is the Alltimate Luggage 3-in-1 System, which is a garment and duffel combo that will be every weekend warrior’s instant favorite.

This is certainly an emerging style in luggage, as there are some brands that offer an all-in-one concept that basically rolls the garment bag into a duffel. I have tried a few of those to mixed results, but this one excels by providing the same convenience with detachable pieces. Simply put, the garment bag wraps around the duffel and connects with simple clasps, so you can still pack suits, dresses, and/or multiple golf shirts and fit it all easily into the overhead bin.

Best of all, this style allows for more clothing to be stored in the garment bag—multiple suits or mix and match with couples’ wardrobes, as opposed to one outfit with the other brands, and good luck unrolling those styles without wrinkles.

FlyWithWine Luggage

An interior look at a FlyWithWine VinGardeValise suitcase that features foam inserts to protect wine and spirits in flight.
FlyWithWine’s VinGardeValise luggage isn’t just about the bottles—it has plenty of space for regular gear, too. FlyWithWine

What I wouldn’t give to travel back a year and bring the FlyWithWine VinGardeValise Piccolo five-bottle carryon bag to Curaçao, where I discovered shelves packed with W.L. Weller bourbon in the airport’s duty-free shop. Not only are these bags ideal for travelers who love to bring their favorite bottles of wine and spirits home from vacation, but they’re simply exceptional pieces of luggage.

Some people see these types of bags as gimmicks, but I was blown away by the combination of style and durability. It has all the look and appeal of a high-end, big-brand carryon at a better price, and everything from the reinforced corner shields to the TSA-friendly locks to the closed-cell foam inserts will make traveling with high-end bottles stress-free. Believe me, if you’ve ever endured the hell of opening a suitcase to find your clothes smelling like that obscure wine you brought home from Aruba, you’ll understand how beneficial this design will be.

For those oenophiles who are merely road-tripping this weekend, the VinXplorer Wine and Beverage Backpack is already my favorite backpack of this young year. On any given getaway, this is a fine bag for basic needs, with plenty of pockets and a very smoothly lined pouch for a laptop or tablet. But the special cooler compartment and hard-shell case that carries wine bottles are awesome for a beach or park picnic, and the cherry on top is the dispenser slot for the pair of 3-liter plastic pouches that are included.

BN3TH Infinite Boxer Brief

A pair of BN3TH Infinite Boxer Briefs with other golf gear.
Never underestimate the value of an awesome pair of underwear. BN3TH

The Venn diagram of travelers and golfers who understand the importance of a comfortable pair of underwear is a perfect circle. Whether spending 12 hours traveling and running through multiple airports or playing back-to-back rounds on one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful courses, the need for high-quality drawers that don’t bunch or climb into unmentionable places is crucial.

Enter: The BN3TH Infinite Boxer brief. This Canadian brand is all about comfort, as evidenced by the Classic Boxer Brief, but the Infinite style was on display at the show as it most certainly appeals to golfers. For starters, the material feels softer than the classic, which is insane because I didn’t think that was possible, but the best aspects of this design are the Pucker Panel, which men will truly appreciate for keeping everything in its place, and the Ionic no-stink technology, which everyone will appreciate in general after hours spent admiring the natural beauty surrounding Quivira Los Cabos.

Birdie and Ace

Various styles of Everyday Tour Skorts from the Birdie and Ace apparel company.
The Everyday Tour Skort is ideal for golf, tennis, or even pickleball. Birdie and Ace

There were so many apparel companies at the PGA Show that it felt like I was running around a shopping mall. The most exciting among them, though, were the newer brands bringing extra levels of creativity to a game that has been, let’s face it, a little boring in the style category for the last few decades. And that’s what inspired husband and wife team Christian and Molly to create Birdie and Ace, a brand that is not only creating stylish golf and racquet sports clothing for women but is also putting the fun in functionality.

Put golf aside for a moment—pickleball is currently all the rage at resorts throughout the Caribbean and Mexico, and Birdie and Ace’s signature Everyday Tour Skort is as soft and comfortable as it is light in the luggage. Between that and the Janie Visor, this is a company that is breathing new life into women’s sports apparel, so don’t be surprised when it becomes one of the biggest names in the game soon.

Waggle Golf

The brand new Pargarita performance polo from Waggle Golf.
The Pargarita is one of the newest styles from this eclectic brand. Waggle Golf

There’s a good chance you’ve already seen Waggle Golf’s colorful, creative, and often hilarious polos and hats on your local course and in the galleries of the PGA’s tournaments. Sure, silly and humorous apparel is on the rise in golf, but what sets Waggle apart is, first and foremost, the quality. The soft performance feel is crucial to enjoying a round under the blistering Caribbean sun, and the polos are so much thinner and more breathable compared to some of the other, well-established brands’ similar efforts.

I won’t name names, but there are some companies who make their so-called stylish polos a little tight in the shoulders and chest, which is counterproductive to your swing. Waggle’s creations have no restrictions in any form, so if you’re a Bryson who just wants to let ‘er rip, you won’t hear that sound coming from your armpit.

At the same time, those other brands churning out supposedly “hilarious” designs might be good for the bros at the local scramble, but Waggle’s styles, like the exceptional, brand new Pargarita and Hawaiian Punchout, stand out without making eyes roll. Let your dad jokes do the latter instead.

Reflo

Reflo’s dedication to sustainability makes it an obvious choice for likeminded travelers. Reflo

Speaking of apparel you might have seen at a PGA tournament, Reflo was the biggest name you might not have heard at the 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open, aka the People’s Open. The eco-friendly brand supplied all the apparel worn by event staff, and its booth at the PGA Show was my happiest accident. It caught my eye as I was leaving at the end of the second day, and I can’t overstate how great it was to learn about this truly innovative sustainable apparel movement.

Not only are the performance t-shirts and golf polos and outerwear extremely soft and stylish, but they’re all created from recycled waste and single use plastic as part of Reflo’s effort to be “Futureproof.” This is a very exciting brand to watch in the coming years, but the apparel they’re selling right now is among the most stylish in the game.

True Linkswear

The Ture Linkswear True All Day Knit II shoe.
From the trails to the golf course, the True All Day Knit III is a versatile, comfortable shoe with plenty of style. True Linskwear

One of the most aggravating problems in my travel packing process is choosing shoes. I already need a versatile pair of sneakers for hiking, exploring, and simply wandering, and some occasions call for a nicer pair when the resort’s signature restaurant frowns upon flip-flops. Add golf to the itinerary and now we’re onto a third pair, and that’s a lot of shoes for one three- or four-day getaway.

True Linkswear has not only solved my problems, but this young, creative brand has made it so I only need one pair of shoes for each trip. The True All Day Knit II was my go-to, all-in-one kick for 2022, and returning to the hotel at night and sliding these shoes off felt like taking off a glove. In fact, the snug fit feels like the shoes—which are so simple in appearance, yet so remarkably versatile for situational needs—are hugging your feet.

As for what’s ahead, True recently teased the brand’s “biggest drop ever,” and a little birdie in the Dead Golfer Society told me the True All Day Knit III will be even more comfortable and is available on March 2. Three cheers for another pair or two of the best shoes for a little bit of everything.

SoundExtreme by ECOXGEAR

A couple in a golf cart listening to music on their SoundExtreme by ECOXGEAR wireless sound bar.
The only thing better than a round of golf is having your lucky playlist coming in loud and clear. ECOXGEAR

I’ve seen the debates in the social media travel-verse about portable Bluetooth speakers—some people love them, and some think they should stay at home—and that’s nothing compared to the much fierier debate in the golf world. Old school players think the only noise on the course should come from lawnmowers and birds, while youngsters want to bring their soundtracks to the links and have a little fun, Al Czervik style.

Well, bad news, old timers: the SoundExtreme by ECOXGEAR 26-inch wireless soundbar is about to turn a lot of rounds into a party. This spectacular portable boombox is the next evolutionary step in the brand’s innovative efforts, as it doesn’t need to plug into a 12v battery source and operates instead on a lithium-ion battery pack. Best of all, the mounting process is a breeze, so it can join the foursome on the golf course, handle a long playlist for a day on the boat, or even deliver adventurous theme songs for UTV rides through the national park.

As always, just mind your neighbors. That’s my simple solution to ending these silly debates.

TecTecTec Team8 S Golf GPS Speaker

For golfers who prefer their Bluetooth speakers to be a little more portable and much lighter on the luggage, the TecTecTec Team8 S Golf GPS Speaker is downright awesome. For starters, even at its small size—the speaker fits in the palm of your hands—the volume and sound clarity is exceptional. Golfers like me who love to fly and play solo will especially appreciate that it has a magnetic clip that can go right on your belt or bag, so the soundtrack is always playing and keeping your mind clear of those pesky doubts about whether or not you can hit the green from the trap.

And that’s where the even more impressive element comes into play. The brand proclaims this to be the world’s first audible GPS and personal speaker, meaning that not only can it play Coolio’s “Fantastic Voyage” while you’re teeing off at Old Quarry, but it can also tell you how far to the center of the green. This is the smallest item I brought home from the PGA Show and it is by far my favorite.

TecTecTec will also soon introduce a Bored in Paradise Tote Bag that will likely be a favorite of golfers who hate clutter, as it fits in 95 percent of golf cart baskets and features a cooler bag, bottle holder, golf accessory organizer, and even a safe for wallets and whatnot.

Bushnell Tour V6 Shift Rangefinder

The brand new Bushnell Tour V6 Shift laser rangefinder.
Coming in April, the Bushnell Tour V6 Shift laser rangefinder will make casual golfers feel like pros. Bushnell

One of the reasons that I think I was so bad at golf for so long is that I never took the technology seriously. My friends would spend considerable time lining up shots with their GPS watches and rangefinders, while I would just grab the club I was hitting best that day and hope to make it somewhere in the same zip code as the green. It wasn’t until a friend insisted I use his Bushnell Golf Tour v3 Jolt that I realized I could probably take a good 10-15 strokes off my game if I used a gadget or two.

Now that I’ve made it a concerted effort to play better and not embarrass myself at Teeth of the Dog in the Dominican Republic in May, it’s time to upgrade to something new that’ll give me a fighting chance. Available in April, the Bushnell Tour V6 Shift laser rangefinder delivers all the bells and whistles a casual golfer needs to step up his game, with an improved pinseeker, 6x magnification, and slope technology so good that it’s a favorite of pros.

And when you crank that great second shot from the fairway, you can look like it’s business as usual as you toss the Tour V6 Shift back to the cart and the magnetic mount will make it stick like a boss.

The Monster Mat

An up-close look at the Monster Mat golf practice aid.
Thicker and more realistic than other practice mats, the Monster Mat is a very helpful tool. Safeplay Golf

Not everything is about what you’re bringing with you on vacation. The Monster Mat is the thing you’ll want at home to practice so your game improves between each trip and for your weekend games on the local course in between. Of all the people I met and talked to at the PGA Show, Safeplay Golf President Brent Paschal was the most fascinating, as his history in the turf business left me feeling no doubt that he’s a king among men in his industry.

So, when he told me that The Monster Mat will provide the best practice experience because of his wealth of knowledge for turf design and construction, I believed it. But the proof was also in the product, as this mat is thicker and more realistic than any I’ve ever used. In fact, while the thin piece of green fuzz I use at home offers no relief on my hands and wrist on those bad swings where it sounds like a bowling ball hitting the floor, one swing on the Monster felt like I was right on a fairway. That’ll go a long way in bringing my practice swing to the real thing.

Miha Bodytec

A trainer and client work out using the Miha Bodytec EMS program.
The Miha Bodytec workout lasts 20 minutes but feels like hours spent in the gym. Miha Bodytec

A lot of factors can affect our games negatively. For me, it’s a cornucopia of valid excuses: lack of range time, shoulder and neck issues from a recent car accident, and the general woes of aging. My goal for 2023 has been to beef up the fitness routines and get my swing speed up so my straight drives can travel a little further and stop leaving me with long approach shots on Par 4’s. Still, time is of the essence, so I’ll take whatever I can get to supplement my weekly visits to the gym.

I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I signed up to test the Miha Bodytec experience, and when I entered the room and suited up, I thought I’d be hooking myself up to electrodes that would shock me if I made a bad swing. “I’m in for a long day of being electrocuted in that case,” I thought. Instead, I learned that this is a Whole Body EMS (electric muscle stimulation) training session that lasts 20 minutes while potentially delivering gains from longer regular workouts.

The result had me feeling like I’d been in the gym for the entire afternoon when barely any time had passed. I was elated and felt rejuvenated on the spot, even if I still had several more hours of PGA Show appointments that day (I walked 11 miles in the West Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center). Great results come from a lot of hard work, but mixing in this kind of EMS training—I’ve joined the program at Bodystreet in Winter Park, FL—goes a long way in building endurance for my normal workouts. My swing speed was already trending up, but now I’m hoping this accelerates the momentum.
